Dear Elyria Catholic High School Band Alumni,
As a past member of the Elyria Catholic High School Band, I am interested in developing a four-year EC Alumni Band Scholarship for an incoming freshman to Elyria Catholic High School. While we learned a lot about music, I felt we learned so much more about hard work, commitment, building lifelong friendships, and the importance of the arts in education. There have also been studies that have linked learning music to increased academic achievement.
I believe we could all pay it forward to help deserving, hard-working freshman marching band students with their tuition. The cost of tuition for all levels of education continues to rise. Elyria is a city where the economy has been hit drastically by a decline in the manufacturing industry. Elyria Catholic has confirmed that it is in most need of scholarship & tuition assistance for its students at this time. This is just another reason why I believe those of us who are able to help a deserving incoming freshman would be a great give back to our Alma Mater.
The goal is to raise a minimum of $1,000 each year. If additional money is raised, it could be used to provide a second scholarship if possible. I hope that everyone who decides to give will commit to making this an annual giving amount and not a one-time donation. This will allow Elyria Catholic to count on awarding $1,000 each year to a new incoming student. As long as the student continues to participate in marching band, they will receive $250 each year for four years.
There is no recommended donation. If we all give something, I am sure we will meet our goal.
Remember our Alma Mater – Loyalty That Never Dies, Hail Elyria Catholic High!
Applications for our inaugural Alumni Band Scholarship will be made available in the Fall of 2019 for incoming freshmen for the 2020-2021 school year. All donors to the EC Alumni Band Scholarship will be notified of the winner and recognized in the next appropriate Panther Prowl.
If you would like to contribute to the Alumni Band Scholarship, please donate below or contact Michelle Hoffman, Director of Philanthropy & Engagement, at hoffman@elyriacatholic.com or (440) 230-8618.
I would like to thank all of you in advance for your sincere consideration of making a donation to this scholarship.
Respectfully,
Robert O’Donnell ‘81
