Health/Physical Education
At Elyria Catholic High School, the students are provided with a wide variety of activities that comprise modern health and physical education. With the increase of leisure time, this is an opportunity for students to be exposed to life-time skills necessary for achieving total health. This program seeks to help the students develop to their fullest potential and to share it with others through cooperation, teamwork and service. The students become acquainted with the basic skills of many physical activities and develop flexibility, agility, endurance, self control, and fitness needed for proper body growth.
Along with the physical aspect, the students are made aware that the social and mental side of their health is also important and that each is interdependent. To help the students understand their own physical, mental and social development, emphasis is placed on "wellness" as part of their lifestyle. By attempting to be and stay well, health reflects an attitude as well as a course of action. The students must be aware of their present lifestyle practices and should be able to choose a more healthful lifestyle in which the quality of their life will become a priority. They should grow in self-acceptance and in the acceptance of others. The students should also value life as a gift from God and develop mature attitudes, respect for life, honesty and leadership.
