¦¦ FINE & PERFORMING ARTS ¦¦

Philosophy

Since the beginning of time, the arts have described, defined and deepened the human expereince. People everywhere have a constant need for meaning - to connect time and space, expereince and event, body and spririt, intellect and emotion. People create art to make these connections, to express the otherwise inexpressible. The arts art deeply embedded in our daily life, often so deeply or subtly that we are unaware of their presence. The arts are everywhere in our lives, adding depth and dimension to the environment we live in, shaping our daily expereinces. The arts are a powerful economic force as well, from fashion to the creativity and design that go into every manufactured product, to architecture, to the performance and entertainment arts that have grown into multibillion dollar industries. We could not live without the arts - nor would we want to.

As a faith community rooted in the Gospel values, we are called to serve others. Students enrolled in Fine and Performing Arts Department courses are provided a variety of opportunities to serve others through the use of their God-given talents; while at the same time, arriving at a well-grounded understanding of the nature, value and meaning of the arts as part of theie own humanity.
